Back To The Basics Of Liposuction
Liposuction is one of the most common procedures done in my practice. It involves injecting numbing agent into the fat, which causes the fat to distend. This allows the fat to be more easily removed with minimal to no bleeding. Liposuction can be used to remove abdominal, back, upper arm and neck fat. Tumescent liposuction is the typical method that I use. This method can be combined with other surgeries including thigh lifts, in which I am able to contour thighs in patients who have lost significant weight.
This procedure requires patience on the part of the patient. When fat is removed the body replaces it with the healing fluid, serum. Overtime the serum diminishes and the final result is seen between 6 – 12 months. In the first three weeks after the procedure, it is important to wear a compression garment to insure smooth healing of the skin with minimal scar tissue and bleeding. Liposuction is an outpatient procedure done under local or general anesthesia
