BOTOX® Cosmetic is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that can reduce or eliminate the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the forehead. The treatment is safe, painless, and can be performed in a matter of minutes. Patients who receive BOTOX® Cosmetic injections can return to work or resume their normal activities that same day. With two offices in San Jose and Los Gatos, California, Dr. Howard Sutkin has helped many Bay Area patients enjoy the benefits of BOTOX® Cosmetic.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is one of the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedures in the United States and throughout the world. The procedure has been proven to be an effective treatment to turn back the clock and reduce the appearance of frown lines and furrowed brows. Many men and women who desire a more youthful look but are not ready to undergo a facelift choose BOTOX® Cosmetic for a more refreshed appearance.
How does the Procedure Work?
Each BOTOX® Cosmetic injection contains a highly diluted form of botulinum toxin type A, a neurotoxin produced by a species of bacteria known as clostridium botulinum. Although the substance is toxic in large quantities, the amount in BOTOX® Cosmetic injections has been proven to be safe and is approved by the Federal Drug Administration.
When BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected into the targeted treatment area, the neurotoxin acts to temporarily paralyze the underlying facial muscles. When the muscles are relaxed, the wrinkles and lines between the brows begin to disappear. As a result, patients who felt as though they looked tired, angry, or upset even when they weren’t often notice a significant improvement in their appearance. Many patients feel as though the procedure makes them look years younger as it restores a vibrant, refreshed glow. The effects of the treatment tend to fade within a few months, but it is safe for patients to receive follow-up injections to maintain their results.
Although BOTOX® Cosmetic is now offered by dentists, spa practitioners, and other medical professionals who do not have training in plastic surgery, it is important to consider that the successful treatment requires a thorough understanding of facial anatomy. A highly trained plastic surgeon like Dr. Sutkin with years of experience in improving facial contours knows exactly where to place the injections in order to achieve the desired results.
