Breast Reduction
Dr. Howard Sutkin has performed breast reduction surgery to help many women reduce or eliminate the pain associated with large, heavy breasts. The main reason that women undergo the procedure is to eliminate pain in the back, neck, and shoulders, but there are other advantages of breast reduction as well.
Please contact our breast reduction surgeon serving the San Jose and Los Gatos, California area for more information, or to schedule a consultation.
Women often gain greater self-confidence after surgery and are very happy with the appearance of their new shapelier, more feminine curves. Patients who were once embarrassed or uncomfortable participating in athletic, recreational, or other activities no longer have to worry about having those limitations placed on them. They often find breast reduction to be a liberating experience and enjoy the freedom that comes with having a positive self-image and feeling comfortable in their own skin.
General anesthesia is used during breast reduction surgery so that the patient sleeps through the procedure and feels no pain. To begin surgery, Dr. Sutkin will make an anchor-shaped incision from the areola down to and across the crease of the breast. From this incision, Dr. Sutkin will remove the excess skin, fat, and tissue that are causing the breasts to feel heavy and appear pendulous. Then the nipple and areola will be relocated to a higher position. This technique of “lifting” the breast is similar to what is used during the breast lift procedure. Once the nipple and areola are in their new location, the incisions are closed with sutures and the procedure is complete.
Breast reduction surgery usually requires patients to miss work for one to two weeks as they rest and recover. Dr. Sutkin and our staff will provide you with encouragement and support throughout this period to help ensure that your healing period is as fast and comfortable as possible.
Smaller, more comfortable breasts can greatly enhance the quality of life for women who are burdened with a large bust. We invite you to learn more about the benefits of this procedure by contacting our Bay Area practice and scheduling a breast reduction consultation at our San Jose or Las Gatos offices.
