Breast Reconstruction Surgery

Breast reconstruction surgery can be performed immediately after the mastectomy or at a later time. If the patient is generally healthy, she will most likely be a candidate to have breast reconstruction performed in conjunction with the mastectomy. Patients who smoke, are overweight, or who have high blood pressure may be advised to wait several months between the mastectomy and breast reconstruction procedure. In addition, women who require one of the more complex types of breast reconstruction are usually advised to wait and undergo breast reconstruction in its own separate procedure.
